I wanted to post this sooner but procrastination did not let me. I just could not finish this due to some personal reasons. But now, it is the end of 2017 and the perfect time to post this.

2017 was another good year for movies; we saw some new ideas, some old ideas, and some tried-and-tested ideas. There were many great films that came out this year. So, I am sharing a list of 10 of my favorite movies from this year. I am not including foreign films. I will create a separate list of foreign films later. So let’s start the list with the most explosive film of the year.

1 – Dunkirk – Christopher Nolan has established himself as one of the best directors working today and if anything, Dunkirk proves that he is here to stay for a very long time. Dunkirk is a war film like none other. It sacrifices entertainment for reality, emotions for truth. On on hand, it is a slow-moving artistic film and on the other – It is a visual grandeur that is best experienced on an IMAX screen. From the brilliant sound design to the amazing cinematography – Everything in this film is masterfully done. One of the best works from Nolan. May get Oscar nods for Best Picture, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, and, Sound Design.

2- A Ghost Story – I am still not sure what I saw. It was a very unusual experience but that is what I have to expect from the indie production house A24. A Ghost story is an emotional and moving piece of cinema featuring Cassey Affleck as a Ghost and Rooney Mara as a grieving wife. This movie has some of the longest-takes you will see this year. The director seems like a big fan of Bela Tarr. This is a strong contender for Best Picture Oscar this year. Rooney Mara certainly deserves a recognition for eating that Apple Pie in a single go.

3 – Coco – Pixar delivers yet another critical and commercial hit with Coco. Although people who have seen the Book of Life may not like it that much, Coco is an amazing experience nonetheless. I liked it much more than The Book of Life. It had beautiful animation and wonderful voice acting. A great comeback from Pixar.

blade runner 2049 best movie 2017

4 – Blade Runner 2049 – Quite possibly, one of the most divisive films of the year. Those who are a fan of the original Blade Runner will love it. Those who have no idea what Blade Runner is will hate it. I would say – Dennis Villeneuve nailed it. He is one of the best directors we have today.

Blade Runner 2049 is a sequel to Blade Runner. It is a slow-burning SciFi with some elements of noir. The cinematography is wonderful but that is to be expected from Roger Deakins who deserves the Oscar this year. If he does not win it, I will riot. But there will be some serious competition from Dunkirk.

logan 2017 best

5 – Logan – An amazing sendoff to one of the most beloved comic book characters in history. Hugh Jackman will always be – The Wolverine. I loved that they did not turn it into a fast-paced slasher. They gave it time to grow on us. The most soulful movie Marvel has ever done.

it movie best movie 2017

6 – IT- Based on Stephen King’s terrifying novel of the same name, IT was an amazing film. I watched it on my Birthday. Nobody was with me and I was free to do whatever I wanted to. I took the day off and went to watch IT. It more than compensated for the damage done by another King adaptation – The Dark Tower.

the shape of water best movie

7 – The Shape of Water – From Guillermo Del Toro, comes another fantasy that is bound to become a cult classic in a few years. This is Del Toro’s most ambitious project yet and it is an amazing and moving piece of cinema. I loved this movie, not as much as Pan’s Labyrinth (which is my favorite foreign film of all time) but I loved it. More Del Toro is what we need in our lives.

8 – Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri – The most surprising hit of the year. I am sure most of the people have not heard of it. The acting in this film is nuts. Best Actress nod coming.

———————————-

9 – Wind River- An amazing slow-burning mystery starring Jeremy Renner. This movie gave me the Hell or High Water vibes.

———————————-

10 – Wonder Woman – The only good film in DCEU. I wish Justice League had half the heart of WW. It is not a great film but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

I am the Editor-in-Chief here because I am the only person managing it. That gives me the right to put that fancy title with my name.
On a serious note, I have created and sold many blogs till date; for monetary purposes, of course. I mean, it is not that hard, right?
